5 tools needed for Re-upholstery

I first learned how to re-upholster during my internship in Lufkin. The designer had an upholstry shop along with a design business. It was exactly what I wanted my company to be like and it was great to see that at first hand. My first day I learned how to start reupholstering a large sofa. There were several different tools that I was using but really there are 5 basic ones that you need.

The first tool is a furniture staple remover. I suggest Berry's Staple Remover. Fabric stores have these, or places where you can get re-upholstery tools from. I ordered mine from Ebay for about $15.00. I suggest getting two of them at a time because the sharp ends tend to get dull over time.

The next tool would be a basic pair of pliers for the staples that get stuck in the frame. I know it may seem basic but these have really helped more than what you can imagine.

The next tool will be an air staple gun that holds a 1/2" crown staple. Reasoning is because it is much easier to remove a 1/2" crown staple than anything smaller with the Betty Staple remover. I use Craftsman because it was the only one I could find at the time for a 1/2" crown stapler. I like keeping things simple.

A Rubber mallet is needed for the deep down staples that are just hugging to the wooded frame. I can not tell you how many times I have used my rubber mallet. It helps out with digging the staple remover underneath the staple. Like I said I like keeping things simple and easy.

The last tool will be the air compressor. There is no need for a huge tank to use for the staple gun. You don't want to go thought the fabric you just want to secure the fabric to the frame so not a lot of pressure is needed.

I hope this helps you with some of the basic tools needed to re-upholster. It becomes easy if you have the right tools.
